I grew up in Kansas, land of wheat fields and big sky, one of six children. In middle school I was granted the nickname "Dodie", a derivative of my maiden name. And all I wanted to do was draw. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Kansas, life events rooted me in Atlanta's urban bustle.
With Kansas in my heart, I found a way to make a home in the metropolis where I enjoyed a 20 year career in graphic design and art direction in the commercial photography arena. I learned the importance of resplendent lighting, color, pattern and selective focus. The embrace of these elements is a glorious weave that appears in each of my paintings. Some of those paintings became butterflies.
